  7. Museum Exhibition 2023

Keeping the ROYALS in everybody’s minds is so important – gone but not forgotten.

It was an honour to give something back to the Regiment as a Pontius Pilate’s Bodyguard volunteer for the Museum outreach event at Dalkeith Palace, which displayed just how much the Lothians did for our Regiment and the country during war and peace-time, and highlighted the bravery and sacrifices the men of these counties made. Their stories told in this way brought the importance of Remembrance to many in a relatable way.

  8. 14 DEC

On 14 Dec 1914 Private Henry Robson, whilst serving on the Western Front with the 2nd Battalion in the vicinity of Kemmel, near Ypres in Belgium, displayed conspicuous bravery in rescuing a wounded non-commissioned officer under heavy fire and attempting to rescue another wounded soldier until he was incapacitated by his own wounds. For this act of gallantry Private Robson was awarded the Victoria Cross.

  9. Just a quick note to thank all the organisers for the hard work putting the very informative exhibition together at Dalkeith Palace. I think all the volunteers, like me, were very impressed by the organisation and planning that made the event successful.

Without a starting KPI, you now have a quantifiable measure of success through the comments book, the numbers attending and the general feedback from attendees. Surely this will give a great baseline for the next time.

I say the next time! As most of the visitors were from the local Dalkeith area and the standard of the exhibition is such that it should move around to other areas. I understand the great difficulties in finding a similar venue that is in itself a visitor attraction.

All the volunteers, like me, enjoyed being part of a well-planned military operation again. The Connecting People Through Remembrance exhibition has been a success, without a doubt.

Thanks for the opportunity to help and I look forward to the next outing of the exhibition.
