It’s with a heavy heart that I have to anounce the passing of my Father Lewis Allan Nelson today 10/6/24 at the grand old age of 98yrs and 3 months.
He was ex 8th Bn Royal Scots and fought in Holland and Germany during WW2 crossing both the Rhein and Elb rivers in amphibious vehicle assaults.
He served just over 29 years in the British Army and was in the following Regiments.
8th Bn Royal Scots, 7th/9th Bn Royal Scots, Royal Scots Fusiliers, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) and finally back to the Royal Scots (1st Bn) retiring in 1972.
He passed away peacefully in the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh surrounded by his family.
Dear Mr Nelson,
Your father sounds like a truly wonderful man. His service shaped history, including the history of our Regiment. I am sorry for you loss.
RIP sir. Lest we forget.
Hi David. Condolences on your loss. My Grandfather was Major DRO Drummond who served in the 8th RS, and also fought in the battles your father did, maybe they crossed paths? He crossed the rhine and sustained serious leg injuries on the 2nd of May 1945. I have the splinter that hit him. Hes mentioned in the literature on this site. I also have 3 scrapbooks following his wartime services. I’m forever grateful for out ancestors sacrifices and long shall they be remembered. God bless

Mr Robert Chapman
It is with great sadness that we report the death on 5 Jun 2024 of Mr Robert Chapman (Chappie), 1 RS 1966 – 1982 (Cpl MT Pl). Funeral details will be promulgated when known..
I realise that June and July are busy periods in our Regimental calendar, but it would be great to see as many of you as possible turn out for Armed Forces Day on Saturday 22 June 2024 and for the Kohima Memorial Service at Lauriston Castle on Saturday 29 June. The route for the Armed Forces Day march has reverted to Charlotte Square to Saint Andrew’s Square along George Street, with refreshments in Saint Andrew’s Square. Details of both events are on the Events page of the website. So dig out your glengarry and medals and do come along and if you can’t find them, don’t worry, it would just be great to see you join us.
Yours Aye
George
