I believe there has been a general invitation by email to Former Royal Scots who took out membership of The Royal Scot Club this year under a new financial arrangement inviting them next month for a get-together. May I ask why other Former Royal Scots members who joined previously under normal membership have not been given this same courtesy?
This smacks of them and us.
Thanks for the question David. The event you mention is not limited only to those new members, but is an opportunity to get them together. It is not a formal function – just a drink in the bar. All members are welcome to join them and it would be good to see anyone who wishes to come along. There will be other groups meeting that afternoon, so it is definitely not limited to new RS member only. Afternoon of Friday 29th July.
It is with great sadness that we report the death on 24 June 2022 of Major Alasdair McVitie TD WS, 7/9 RS. Our thoughts are with his wife Margaret, his family and friends. A service of thanksgiving will be held at 2pm on Tuesday 5 July 2022 at Melrose Parish Church.
ARMED FORCES DAY 25 JUN 2022
It was marvellous to see a good RS contingent turn out for Armed Forces Day in Edinburgh yesterday and it was an honour to march behind the Association Standards.
I would be grateful if photographs worthy of inclusion in the Thistle are sent with captions to admin@theroyalscots.co.uk

Andy
So sorry to hear the sad news, sincere condoences to you and all your family.

RS REMEMBRANCE EVENTS 2022 AT THE CENOTAPH
The Southern Branch of the Association is kindly organising the Royal Scots participation in Remembrance events in London in Nov 2022. These will include:
12 Nov at 1800 – A Regimental cross planting service a the Field of Remembrance
13 Nov Royal Scots contingent participation in the parade at the Cenotaph
13 Nov after the parade – Lunch
Anyone wishing to attend any of these events should notify the Chairman of the Southern Branch, Christopher Delacombe or the Regt Sec at admin@theroyalscots.co.uk no later that 16 Aug 2022. There may be some flexibility for late additions to the cross planting service or lunch, but this is a hard deadline for participation in the parade.
Dear Association Officers and Branch Chairmen
I am now in the process of planning the regimental Remembrance Weekend activities in London. These include the very special Cenotaph Parade preceded the evening before by a regimental cross planting service in the Westminster Abbey Field of Remembrance and with the parade on the Sunday traditionally followed by a lunch in the East India Club in St James’s Square.
Please see the email below which I circulated yesterday and bring it to your branch members’ attention. We would hope to see as many marchers from North of the border as possible.
I need to know the names of any prospective marchers by no later than 17 August along with their personal details for security reasons as follows:
Surname
First name
Rank
Date of birth
Place of birth
Country of birth
Home address – including post code
Service number
Dates of service
Let us make it a really good regimental turn out
Best wishes to all
Christopher Delacombe
Very sad and after a long battle. Roger, known then as Lt Roger Eady, joined IRS in Berlin along with me and saw service in Libya thereafter. Set up Swinfen Telemedicine (The Swinfen Charitable Trust) with Pat, his wife in 1999. both awarded the MBE for this service which provides access to free medical support for the poor, sick and disabled across the developing world. HRH The Princess Royal is its Patron.
Golf Match against 1 RANGER Regiment
The above friendly game will take place at Merchants Golf Club on Friday the 24th Jun 22, first tee off time is at 11:00hrs. Can we all please meet at the club house for between 10:00 hrs – 10:15 hrs.
The cost of the golf will be £20 per player. The following have notified their intention to play are:
Rab Johnstone, David Milne, Brian McGeachie, Noel Martin, George Grant and Mark Renton.
For a variety of reasons, it would be great to have a very good turnout to march this year. Don’t worry if you can’t find your trews or glengarry, blazer or medals, but super if you can, it would just be good to see as many Royals who are able to do so marching. I look forward to seeing you there.
Yours Aye
George
